Helping you to tap into the rising interest in green tourism

Green tourism, and the need for those in the industry to switch to more sustainable operating models, is nothing new but prior to the pandemic was perhaps more concentrated on the eradication of single-use plastic bottles for things like shampoo and soap and on reducing water usage.

The pandemic has led to a clear acceleration in traveller demand for holidays and hotels to feel both safe and sustainable, and the industry has been responding!

For our part, we launched our Green Hotels Programme, a turn-key solution to bring Hotelbeds and its partners to the green economy and accelerate the transition of the travel industry towards sustainability.

So how does it work? Hotels recognised as ‘green’ are now easily identifiable to the more than 60,000 client partners of Hotelbeds and Bedsonline – including travel agents, tour operators, airlines, and points redemption schemes – via a green filter that includes details of certifications and offer tags.

This means that environmentally conscious travellers can identify which properties fit their sustainability needs and choose your hotel over those that don´t!

To certify properties as sustainable, we have partnered with global sustainability certification companies to identify fully certified hotel properties following the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) for hotels.

The criteria is organised around four main themes: effective sustainability planning, maximising social and economic benefits for the local community, enhancing cultural heritage and reducing negative impacts on the environment.

Over 15,000 properties are already certified. Is your hotel included? If not, be sure to contact your Contracting Manager today to find out more and to tap into this increasing demand!
